Chloe

Chloe was one of the first dogs I met at the Carlsbad shelter and boy did she steal my heart. Every day that I arrived, I would immediately go take her out. We would walk around for a while then go in a play yard were she really just wanted to lay in my lap. One day, when we were out in the yard, a little boy and his mama approached the gate. Chloe would just lean against the fence as close to the little boy as she could possibly get just hoping he would pet her. The mom kept saying "wow she is really good with kids" at that moment I knew this dog was going to get out of this shelter and in a loving home.
A couple weeks went by and sure enough, Chloe got adopted! Yaay!  But then, her new adopter decided she did not have enough time for a dog and returned her to the shelter, poor baby girl. A few times after that she ended up in a foster home, but always returned. Can you imagine the stress and confusion this sweet animal endured over a few months time?
December 15th I found out the shelter was only giving Chloe until the 19th to get out of there before they were going to put her down due to aggression toward the public. What? Are we talking about the same dog here? Poor Chloe was getting so stressed, whenever a human would approach her kennel but not take her out, she would bark and jump around, which to some came off as aggression when in reality she just simply could not control her emotions. Myself and a number of volunteers began to network Chloe in hopes a rescue would step up and save this wonderful girl we had all grown to love.
Thursday came to an end, nothing. Friday, a few people thinking about it, but she was still at the shelter Saturday morning. Same story through out the weekend, but same result, there Chloe sat. To be honest, Sunday evening, I came to terms with what I thought to be the out come of this precious dogs life... It would be OK, at least she would be out of her misery. But then, a miracle happened Monday morning, I began to receive emails and phone calls from people informing me a rescue was going to pull her. Sure enough, Jericho's Promise Animal Rescue, with the help of Paw Protectors and Pit Bull Rescue San Diego, got Chloe out of the shelter and in a warm, loving foster home. God is so good! This is truly the best Christmas present I could ever hope for.

If you or someone you know is interested in adopting Chloe please contact me for more info!

Lola

Meet Miss Lola! The shelter staff thinks she is about three years old. This pretty pittie is all blue with white on her paws and down her chest, super gorgeous. Lola came to the shelter less than a month ago knowing no commands, super timid of humans and acting like everything in this world was so new to her. Her teats were very swollen, which leads me to think she may have just had a litter of pups, one of many. She has scares on the side of her face, I don't even want to know how she got them.
Today I went to Lola's kennel to take her out, for once she was wagging her tail and softly barking in excitement. Once we got into the play yard, she sniffed all around the grass like usual, as if she hadn't seen much of it in her life time... but then came running up to me for love! Oh my! What a different dog! Come to find out she has learned sit and stay and can perform them perfectly. Lola has come so far and I know she will just excel once in a loving home where she will receive lots of attention.
This lovely girl currently resides at the Carlsbad Shelter where she is waiting for her forever home. Her ID number is A1441552 and her Tag number is 148. If you are interested in adopting Lola or know someone that is, please contact me or go down and visit her at the shelter. She deserves a second chance at a good life.

Angie has been adopted!

This beautiful, three year old pittie is Angie. She knows sit, down, stay and walks well on leash. While still spunky and fun loving, She is also calm and gentle. Angie loves people and is super playful towards other dogs of all sizes and genders. It is hard to not fall head over heels for this brown eyed girl.
If you or someone you know is interested in adopting pretty Miss Angie, please let me know! She is currently at the Carlsbad Animal Shelter waiting for a loving home she could call her own! She is a wonderful girl that deserves nothing but the best.
Before you buy a puppy from a breeder or pet store, please consider adopting a loving dog from our local shelters, as you may be their last hope. When you buy from a breeder you are supporting there cause of making a quick buck (which 8 out of 10  of these pups will most likely end up in the kennel right next to Angie.) When you buy from a pet store you are supporting puppy mills... look it up... it's sickening. When you adopt from a shelter or rescue organization, you are giving a smart, loving animal a second chance at life. I am not trying to pass judgement, I am just encouraging more people to think about adoption first. I know this can be a harsh reality, but hey, someone has to speak up for these animals that have no voice.

First Day

I recently transferred from the San Diego to the Carlsbad shelter.  I have to admit, I was a little nervous to change shelter locations (I am a major creature of habit.) But now that I officially know the layout and what not at Carlsbad (north) I am super excited for many new adventures.
October 11th, I met a wonderful lady named Michelle at north so she could show me around. She introduced me to some other volunteers and staff, took me on a whirl wind through the maze (shelter) then told me to call her if I needed anything... OK... I can do this. After I took a deep breath, I walked the whole grounds again slowly and got the feel of it, much better. North has a way better layout than central did. I then got all my necessities together and got to work.
Marley was the first dog I took out that day (stay tuned for his blog post) he is such a great boy! We walked the grounds which are awesome, great trails and play yards for the dogs to, well, be dogs! While playing ball with Marley, I got to know Leslie, a fantastic volunteer that has been there for over 5 years! Leslie was telling me that they have adoption events where us volunteers can pick a dog to take... awesome! Later that day I found my pick for the next outing, Chloe... Yes, I am in love again!
So all in all, this was a great change. I am meeting some great people, amazing dogs and see fantastic things happening in my future volunteering at the Carlsbad shelter. To top it off, north is right around the corner from Brett's work. He can come meet my lovely doggies I brag about and take me on lunch dates now and then... yesterday was Sushi, thanks babe!
It has been a long couple of months and it is finally time to put some TLC back into my blog, which will hopefully assist in our canine friends finding their forever homes. I will be posting dogs again soon... keep an eye out for one that may just steal your heart away!

Tiny

This beautiful girl is Tiny. Why the name? I'm not sure, she is an average size pittie, go figure ha-ha. They estimate her age to be about a year old, she is very calm for such a young dog. I absolutely love her and how gentle she always is. She is such a sweet girl that just wants someone to love her. Poor thing is getting stressed out at the shelter, she needs to find a home fast. All though she does know sit and down, I think someone just used her for backyard breeding and didn't even try to teach her much... but being a pit, she is super eager to please so I know she will learn fast. Tiny loves people and her favorite place to be is in your lap. When I take her out of her kennel, she wants to sniff and check everything out, but as soon as I sit down she books it to my side and waits to be petted.

If you or anyone you know can help save Tiny please do so. Also, please share her far and wide as I think her time may be very limited :-( Everytime I see this sweet face, she tugs at my heart strings, I hope to see a very happy ending for this amazing animal. Right now Tiny is at the San Diego animal shelter on Gaines St. Her ID number is A1397676 and her Tag number is C544.

Katie - Has been Adopted!

Every week or so I come home from the shelter and tell Brett all about the new "love of my life" ... Well guess what? Katie is SO the love of my life! Just look at that face! When she first came to the shelter, I was very worried about her, she was shutting down fast. Today I walked in there and it was like a whole new girl, so excited to see me and eager to get out and go on an adventure. Katie walks very well on leash, knows sit, down and is "getting" stay. The shelter staff determines her age to be about a year and a half.

Talk about a gentle dog, she just melts in your lap and gives the sweetest kisses. If I had my way I would take her right now, BUT I can't so I am counting on one of you. :-) Trust me, she would make the perfect companion. I'm not exactly sure on this because I have not had a chance to do an interaction with her and another dog, but she seems to be calm around them going in and out of her ward. As far as kids go, Katie is another one of those "Mama dogs" I always seem to blog about so I think she would do well around kids.

Please consider Katie if you are looking to add a member to your family. She curently resides at the San Diego animal shelter on Gaines St. ID # A1427664 Tag #196. Please share her with everyone you know in hopes to find her that loving home she longs for.

Tigressa

Meet this pretty girl, Tigressa. OK some of the volunteers at the shelter are kinda silly when it comes to naming the dogs... But you get the point :) She's a beautiful brindle. The shelter staff listed her age as 11 months, but I think she is a little older... maybe two years old, but she still has that puppy spunk! Sadly, I don't think anyone has taken the time to teach her any commands, but she is SUPER smart and eager to please so she will pick things up quick. Tigressa has definitely had some puppies and the great news about that is, it has made her a wonderful and gentle mama dog.

It is urgent that we get her out of there as her time is limited! :-( If you or anyone you know is interested in giving this sweet girl a second chance, please leave me a comment here or email me for more information. She is oh so deserving! Right now Tigressa is at the San Diego animal shelter on Gaines St. ID #A1394995 Tag #C724

Harley

This is Harley, he is the shelter stud muffin! This Pittie/American Bulldog is about 2 1/2 years old and already neutered. He is super friendly to all dogs and people, such a lover boy! He knows sit and stay already and because he is so treat motivated he will pick up on anything really quick. Harley walks right next to you on leash (which is fantastic because he is a big boy ha ha) Don't let his size fool you though, he is gentle as can be, just melts in your lap. This guy really is a big goof... I just love it! From his cute little under bite to the way he throws his paws in the air while he runs full speed at you then slams on the brakes, he is sure to win someones heart and hopefully a spot in their home.

Harley is currently at the San Diego animal shelter on Gaines st. His ID number is A10409517 and tag number is C531. If you or someone you know is interested in this wonderful dog please email me or leave a comment here.

Raven

So this silly girl is Raven.... and she is just that, SILLY as can be! When I took her out for a walk, every time we past someone in the hallways she just HAD to say hi, such a people lover. She is about a year old and so full of life, this girl is ready for an adventure! When we went to the play yard she jumped right in the kiddo pool... I really don't think she was familiar with it, it just looked so fun she HAD to do it! She knows sit and shake already and is so smart teaching her more will be a breeze. When I first saw Raven I thought her coloring and markings looked like a beagle, then when we went outside and her nose was basically glued to the ground, I was convinced she's pit/beagle... who knows though. I did not get a chance to see her with other dogs but I really don't think there would be a problem as she seems to LOVE everything.

Raven is currently at the San Diego shelter and looking for a forever home where she can shower you will love and joy. Her ID # is A1417114  and tag #335. Please contact me for more information.

Shy Girl we will call Hope

This beautiful girl reminds me so much of Theo (Bowmans Canine's newest member) Someone hacked off her ears pretty bad and she is so scared of humans :( makes me so sad. You know, I am really drawn to the shy dogs... something about them... I think it's because it feels so good when you can gently get a creature to trust you, the way they should. I don't know this little girls story, but my heart aches for her, she has not felt love before. Today was my first time meeting this pup without a name... let's call her... Hope. I was planning on taking her out for a walk, but soon found out she is terrified of the leash. I slowly opened the kennel door and realized I did not have to worry about her door dashing as she was afraid to even come near me. I slowly knelt down sideways to show her I was not a threat, put my open hand on the ground in front of her to offer a treat which she snagged really quick and took a few steps back. I gently said "it's OK girl, your OK" then offered her another treat, as she reached for it I said "good girl, that's a good girl, good job" we repeated this process over and over until finally she took a treat from my hand that was placed in my lap then gave my hand a gentle kiss. I never got to the point of taking her for a walk but I did get her to trust me a little bit more than she did when I first came in to visit her.

Dogs in her condition are usually very hard to adopt out.... I REALLY worry about her well being. If you or someone you know has the time and patience for my little Hope, PLEASE contact me.... She deserves to experience love. I can not wait until Brett & I have some property and we can save sweet dogs like Hope.  As of right now she is listed as "county property" at the San Diego shelter which means she is not yet available for adoption, but if you think you can take her I will personally go talk to them and see what we can do.

Lacy - Has been Adopted!

Meet my Lacy girl! Can you believe she has been at the shelter since March! Lacy is the ultimate LOVE BUG! This 6 yr old pittie girl knows sit, shake and would do great with training as she will do anything for affection and treats! She LOVES people and other dogs. Miss Lacy needs a  home :-(

I absolutely love spending time with this baby girl. She is just so full of life and has not aloud the shelter to affect her at all. She sure is a volunteer favorite, I mean who could resist a dog that slowly falls to the ground and rolls over as soon as you touch her, silly girl.  please share with everyone, let's find this girl the forever home she longs for.

Caroline - Has been Adopted!

Ok, lets talk about Caroline. This pretty girl has stolen my heart BIG TIME! Those eyes make me melt and that smile, well, she is just stunning! She reminds me of a seal, looks wise. If I had the space right now to take in a foster (or even adopt) she would be my number one choice no doubt. Caroline is 5 years old and would make the perfect pet for someone who wants a dog to just hang out with. She enjoys the serinity of just "being" with you. Everytime I take Caroline out we find a nice shady spot to relax, she lays next to me and observes the world around her. Oh, did I mention she's a momma dog?  Has had some pups in her day... she's so gentle and caring because of it. This girl LOVES people, other dogs and food! She knows sit/stay and walks AMAZING on leash.

Today I found out that she actually may get a chance to go to rescue which is FANTASTIC and well over due. Right now she resides at the San Diego Animal Shelter, not the ideal place. I will keep you all posted as I plan to follow her story, I just have to know where she ends up. Her future family is SO lucky!

If you are interested in her just let me know and I will give you more information.

Latte

Meet Miss Latte, one of Bowmans Canine's Finest! She is a 2 year old, spayed pit/weimaraner mix who was rescued from Escondido Humane Society in June of 2010 where she was scheduled to be euthanized because of her fear of strangers. Bowman's Canine picked her up and placed her in a foster home where she's received daily training and socialization, she has made leaps and bounds. She LOVES belly rubs and will melt upon the slightest touch. Latte likes other dogs but tends to prefer males and submissive females. She loves to play fetch, tug of war and go for walks where she will show you how fantastic she is on the leash. She already knows sit, down, come, stay, watch and release. This lovely girl does extremely well in a crate and is respectful of the house. Latte is a very special girl who melts the heart of everyone who gets a chance to spend a minute with her.

Recently, Latte was attacked by neighbor dogs which had her on bed rest for a couple of weeks.  It was an unfortunate accident and luckily Latte has not allowed this experience to crush her soul. She is such a strong girl and has just about made a full recovery, luckily she has a foster momma who has supported and cared for her through it all.

If you are looking for a love bug to go hiking with and just lounge around, Latte would be that girl for you! I love this dog like my own and can't wait for her to find the perfect home where she can be the center of attention with a wonderful family.
